Andy Uba, four others shun PDP summon; Tony Nwoye receives certificate of return

Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Andy Uba, and four other persons invited by NWC to come and explain why they held a parallel primary during the last Anambra PDP primary election on Wednesday failed to comply with the summon.
Andy Uba alongside his brother Chris Uba, Ejike Oguebego, Benji Udeozor, and Tonia Nwankwu were asked to obey the summon or face sanctions.
The members did not only stay away, they also refused to send an apology for their inability to attend the meeting.
Sources said that the Senator was sighted in Asokoro in the Central Area of the city.
Meanwhile, Tony Nwoye, a former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, who won the primary approved by the party leadership was at the national secretariat yesterday to collect his certificate of return.
In a chat with journalists shortly after the brief programme, Nwoye said the alleged recognition given to Andy Uba by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not stand.
He maintained that the electoral umpire cannot stop him from contesting the election.
According to him, accepting any candidate submitted by the Ejike Oguebego faction of Anambra PDP by INEC amounts to illegality before the law, insisting that the law was clear on who has the right to submit the name of a party candidate to INEC for election.
“It is the national chairman of the party and secretary that present a party’s candidate for an election. Once a party presents a candidate, INEC cannot object to it,” Nwoye said.
He described the primary that produced him as transparent, adding that he had reached out to all the other aspirants to support him.
Apparently referring to the Uba camp, he said he would not allow “whoever wants to be a clog in the wheel of progress to succeed.”
“Chris Uba cannot write names of delegates in his bedroom. If his brother who is my former boss cannot face party members for the primaries, how can he face (Chris) Ngige and other parties?”
He stated that he was seen as a green horn before the exercise, adding that he struggled to be recognised to attend a dinner held by the national chairman for Anambra State aspirants because he was sidelined.
