Cult clash in Nasarawa Polytechnic leaves one dead

One student has been confirmed dead and several others injured in a gun battle between two rival cult gangs in Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.
The shootout lasted for several minutes outside the school premises.
The deceased, Goodness Ogochuckwu, and his friends were said to have been traced to a football pitch by a rival cult.

Cult activities are on the rise in Nasarawa Polytechnic and hardly does a semester pass without the school witnessing a major incident of cult-related crisis, including killings.
Cornelius Ocholi, police spokesperson of the command, confirmed the incident and said that three truck-loads of armed policemen were immediately deployed there.
“I can’t give details now, but two rival cult groups clashed. Our men were there on time, and they brought the situation under control,” Ocholi said, adding that four suspects were arrested.
The Acting Rector of the school, Engr. Emmanuel Jatau, who described the incident as unfortunate, said that the management of the institution was working with security agencies to ensure the arrest of the culprits.
The incident happened barely two weeks after the school resumed.
The five injured students are currently receiving treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH).
